We Are Family….
Public utilities, and especially their employees, have a different view of the world. It is a vision of caring, of support, and of community. When CSA was chartered in 1938, the same values of caring, support and community were written into its DNA. Today, 79 years after our founding members instilled their vision of an association by and for public utilities, we still see ourselves not as a business with customers, not as a vendor to assorted “clients,” and not as a supplier to an industry. We see Central Service Association and all its members as a family. Our mission is to support your mission as you provide electric, water, gas, wastewater, sanitation and other vital services to your communities. 
So, like many families, we like to come together each year for a reunion. At CSA, we call it the Annual User Education Conference (AUEC). The AUEC provides attendees with an opportunity to catch up with other “family” members, share ideas, and learn how to serve each other and ultimately their consumers better.
This year our theme is SUCCESS, and our focus is on what it takes to make each of us, and the companies and utilities we represent, successful. Each of the events surrounding the 2017 AUEC contribute to the seven items we have identified as required for success.  Each of our sessions and events will focus on at least one of the following: vision, quality, contacts, education, teamwork, business or strategy. Each of these is an ingredient in the recipe for success. 
As in the past, YOUR association has called on a diverse group of utility personnel to provide input into the structure and content of the conference. The Annual User Education Conference Advisory Board met in Nashville in early December to share ideas and to help us mold the format and content of the meeting to meet the members’ needs. Once again this year we are offering a wide variety of educational opportunities that will provide both professional and personal growth to the attendees. 
During the 2017 AUEC we will continue to offer popular educational opportunities like the Member Application Support & Help (M*A*S&H) stations and the expo room for vendors. We have also set aside time on Wednesday afternoon for scheduled meetings with staff and vendors. 
Last year CSA was certified by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a provider of continuing education, and CSA has been placed on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. While the agenda is still subject to change, we currently have 14 classes worth 14 CPE hours scheduled. We will also have four classes for professional engineers and each should qualify for Professional Development Hours (PDH). This year we will also identify each class as fitting into one or more of three “tracks.” These tracks are “General Knowledge and Skills,” “Systems and Software,” and “Engineering/Operations and Security.” Attendees are NOT required to choose or follow a particular track. 
For our preconference classes, we currently have plans to present the popular Orbit CMB 101 and Orbit DFMS 101. For new or experienced users, these classes serve as reminders and refreshers of the great functionality contained in these two powerful systems. These sessions were offered the last two years and proved to be a big hit.  We are also working to provide some mini-sessions for our vendors during the pre-conference events on Monday, so that they can share information about their products and services.
Full group sessions will include the keynote address, the CSA systems update, and a presentation from popular presenter Robert Mohon called “Dealing with Stress.”
As we continue to expand, this year’s conference will feature a record 22, hour-long breakout sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, in addition to several large-group sessions. While there could still be some tweaks in the agenda, we have provided a preliminary agenda below for your review.
Each year I try to express how important it is for your utility to be represented at the Annual User Education Conference. This is CSA’s primary opportunity each year to share information with our member/owners. It is also a prime opportunity for you and your staff to tap into the knowledge of CSA’s employees and other industry experts. Ask questions, see product demonstrations, explore opportunities offered through our “affiliated vendors,” and return to your utility a wiser, better prepared and more motivated employee.
